Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 27, 2025
SaveSnippet ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we (and our service providers) collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers the SaveSnippet browser extension and the savesnippet.com website (the "Services").
1) What we collect
A. Browser extension
- Snippets & documents (local only). Text you save and any document structure (titles, separators, etc.) are stored locally in your browser storage (e.g., chrome.storage.local).
- Settings. Extension preferences (e.g., feature toggles) are stored locally.
- No background tracking. The extension does not send your snippets or page contents to our servers unless you explicitly choose a cloud/sync feature (not available in the MVP).
Permissions used. Currently:
- storage (to store your snippets/settings locally)
- contextMenus (to show "Save with SaveSnippet" on right-click)
If we add more permissions later, we'll update this policy and the Web Store listing.
B. Website (savesnippet.com)
- Basic logs. Our hosting provider (e.g., AWS Amplify) may automatically collect standard server logs (IP address, user agent, referrer, pages visited) for security and reliability.
- Support form / waitlist. If you submit the Support form or join a waitlist, we collect what you enter (e.g., name, email, description). Support is currently powered by Google Forms, so responses are processed and stored by Google.
Cookies.
- Essential cookies for basic site functionality.
- Analytics (only if enabled): we may use privacy-friendly analytics or Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage. If used, we'll show a notice and honor local consent rules.
2) How we use information
- Provide the Services. Save and organize snippets locally; operate and secure our website.
- Support. Respond to your requests and improve reliability.
- Improve & research. Understand feature usage in aggregate (if analytics are enabled).
- Legal & safety. Detect, prevent, or address security, abuse, and legal requests.
We do not sell your personal information.
3) Where data lives
- Extension data: stays on your device in browser storage unless you export it or choose to sync (sync is not available in the MVP).
- Website/support data: stored by our hosting provider and Google Forms (for support submissions).
4) Sharing
We share information only with:
- Service providers who help us run the site and support (e.g., hosting, Google Forms). They must protect your data and use it only for our instructions.
- Legal & safety purposes if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not share snippet content for advertising.
5) Data retention
- Extension data: remains on your device until you delete it (via the extension or your browser).
- Support/waitlist data: kept as long as needed to respond and maintain records; you can request deletion anytime.
6) Your choices & controls
- In the extension: you control what to save, edit, export, or delete. You can also remove the extension to clear its data (and/or clear chrome.storage via browser settings).
- On the website: you can block non-essential cookies (if used).
- Access / delete requests: contact us and we'll help: via the Support form.
7) Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please handle exports and shared links carefully.
8) Children's privacy
Our Services are not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9) International users
If you access our Services from outside our hosting region, your information may be processed in other countries with different data protection laws.
10) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as features evolve (e.g., if we introduce optional sync or new exports). We'll revise the "Last updated" date and, when appropriate, provide additional notice.
11) Contact
Questions or requests? Use our Support form.
If you prefer email, you can include it inside the form and we'll respond there.
